Why am I doing this again?

Every now and then I feel guilty about how I spend the few hours a week I have to myself.  Maybe I should be doing something more productive or constructive or practical with my spare time.  Instead, I spend that time writing.  I love to write for the sake of writing.  Don’t get me wrong, getting published was an awesome honor and I would love to get published again, but its not why I write.  I write because it keeps me sane.  Although Eileen may argue otherwise.

On those down occasions when I question myself, I remember something my dad said to me.  He was the first person to read EGO.  When he visited us a few months ago, he said he had no idea that I had such a sick mind.  Then looked at my husband and said, “And if I were you I’d sleep with one eye open.”  THAT is the best review I will ever get.  And THAT is why I keep trying to get published.

I started writing for a new genre this week.  Let’s see, I have mystery/suspense and romantic suspense.  Now I am trying my hand at young adult paranormal.  I’m not trying to compete with the billions of other people who have successfully tackled this genre, I’m just going with it.  It’ll be fun!

One other thing is on my mind before I close up for the week.  Associations, organizations, groups and the like all seem fine and dandy.  But there are so many to choose from!  And how do I find the right one?  And do I have to belong to any of them?  I’m talking specifically about Romance Writers of America (RWA) and Mystery Writers of America (MWA).  I’d love to hear from writers who are members of either of these and why they think all writers should (or should not) join.  GO!

I didn’t find much help with the organizations that I was a part of. I did find a group that meet once or twice to help review each others work, but since these people don’t have the same tone, it often didn’t work well.

Just listen to the crazy people and they won’t steer you wrong!
