Welcome Blog Hoppers!
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the skinny. (Check it out, lots of giveaways!)
NaNoWriMo
National Novel Writing Month has come to an end. I wrote 34000 (roughly) words for Silver Wings. Not too shabby! I feel great about my progress, and even greater about taking a break and pursuing other projects. Thank you to NaNoWriMo.org for their stats page and for making it super easy to keep track of my word count.
Movies from Books
So I’m watching TV and the trailer for Jack Reacher comes up. “Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher”, the man announces. Nope, no he’s not. In fact I can’t think of anyone less Jack Reacher than Tom Cruise. I’m angry, I feel robbed and cheated. Then it hits me: I never want my books to become movies.
Reason number one: That has to be an incredible burden, to fill these roles. People become immersed in these books and have a specific picture in their head of what Jack Reacher looks like. His eyes, his voice, the way he walks. And everyone’s picture is different and MOST EVERYONE is picturing someone who could never exist in real life.
Reason number two: Authors get very little say, if any, in who plays these characters once they are taken over by a movie studio. Can you even imagine how vivid Lee Child’s picture is of that character? I can tell you what my characters smell like and what color underwear they are wearing.
My point is, don’t weigh too much on the movie. It isn’t going to be like the book. I could be better, but not likely.
Giveaway
I am giving away a Crochet Ereader Pouch, similar to this one I found on Pinterest, but I’ll be using a crocodile stitch —>>>
I’ll even give you a choice of color. If you want to win it, leave a comment below with your name and email, use (at) and (dot) to avoid spammers. You will be entered into my drawing AND the Grand Prize drawing at Still Moments Publishing. Good luck!

Great post Keri, thanks for hopping with SMP !!
Congrats on the NANO word count! I know what you mean about having a picture already in my head about my characters. And Tom Cruise would NEVER play any of them! Hah!

Congratulations on the NanNo count. You are to be commended. I haven’t yet read Lee Child’s book but based on your comments, I might seek it out.
Impressive word count, Congrats!! I have to agree with you about the whole movie deal, unless of course Mark Wahlberg was starring in it. Then all bets are off. dpysa(at)aol(dot)com
Such a sweet idea! I attempted some knitting about a year and a half ago and haven’t gotten too far with it…it’s almost the right size for a dish cloth…
Thanks for the giveaway – and congrats on your word count! Very impressive.
