How do you say goodbye to your friends?
This has been a question that has been eating at me since I started the third and final book of the Flightless series. I tried attacking the book the same way I did with the other two, but kept running into a wall every time. So I thought, “Hey, maybe I need a break. Let’s try writing something else.” Well this opened a whole new can of worms which involved a new genre and a pen name…but that’s a whole other blog post. I kept coming back around to the idea gnawing at my subconscious: I have to finish this first. And then one day I just snapped. I won’t go into the gory details, but it involved a lot of flinging snot and the realization that I really needed a break. I long, long break.
So how do you say goodbye to your friends? Well, you don’t rush it. It takes time. How much time? As long as it takes. These characters are part of me and I love them and I want to give them the going away party they deserve. I know I promised to finish this series and have it in your hands this summer, but I’m afraid it’s not going to happen. I know you understand, and yet as a reader I know this is frustrating. So here is my new plan:
I’m taking a year to focus on my writing and my book design business. Since Flightless and Hopeless were both pretty short, so they will be combined with book three in an anthology. Until then, you can still purchase the first two books through the usual websites. And look for the Flightless anthology Fall 2015. Thank you all for your support and fan mail. As always, I will try and answer every tweet, gram, post, mail and email I receive.
